Paper Beach

To the north of Launceston city, the kanamaluka / Tamar estuary meanders through the productive Tamar Valley. The rolling hills of the valley are home to rich agricultural land and offer a range of recreational opportunities, enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.

West Tamar Landcare have been enhancing the estuary shoreline with weed management and revegetation work for many years. We interviewed Peter Voller, to hear how this local community group has worked to benefit not only the local ecological habitats, but the recreational opportunities as well. We also spoke with Sam Jack, the TEER Program’s Scientific and Technical Coordinator about the area’s biodiversity, including saltmarsh: a threatened vegetation community.
